Like the "indian" in the Keep America Beautiful campaign, Kermit singing his song was an iconic moment
from '70s culture. It had a cheesey balad feel that was common at the time for variety TV shows like Sonny & Cher or the Andy Williams show, where a musical guest would be bathed in light in an otherwise dark set and soft focus layered shots would gluide in and out while they sang. This vid underlines both the original environmental movement fomenting under the Carter administration, as well as the psychology of identity, the "I'm OK, You're OK" that was so pervasive then. Kermit is coming to terms with his "otherness". Aren't we all?
