After hearing news stories about the massive patch of plastic swirling around the Pacific, Dutch designer Foekje Fleur van Duin started collecting discarded trash on the banks of the Maas River and thinking of ways to incorporate it into creative projects. These amazing porcelain replicas of plastic bottles come from those experiments. Made using a plaster mold, the vases are exact copies of trashed bottles.

"Our modern throw-away society still produces objects of beauty and permanence - you just need to know where to look," she says. "In this new Bottles series, trash from the canals of Rotterdam, Holland is redefined as something worth keeping."

A limited array of the vases is available via Sprout Home
