It goes without saying that clean water is at the root of the most important environmental and health problems of our time. All life on earth is dependent on clean water. Good water quality sustains healthy ecosystems, and healthy ecosystems sustain life.
There are lots of nonprofits fighting the good fight for clean water. You can take an active role in World Water Day by getting involved. Here are a few ways:
Co-Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, our friends at Water.org do their part to create accessible, safe water supplies for people in the developing world. The group's One Week For Water inititative allows you to donate your Facebook and/or Twitter status to raise awareness for World Water Week.
Another SHFT fave, charity: water brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. "Unshaken," the nonprofit's World Water Day campaign, aims to raise over $1 million to build long-term clean water solutions in Haiti. Donate now.
UK-based Water Aid provides safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. For World Water Day, Water Aid is organizing a mass mobilization and event and Guinness World Record attempt at the World's Longest Toilet Queue. For those of us not in England toactually stand in line, you can join the online queue by adding your name to a global petition demanding political action on clean water.
Play a part. Act now!
