Underwater Dreamworlds by Susanna Majuri

  • Posted by SHFT on December 13, 2013 in Art
  • Finnish fine art photographer Susanna Majuri invites viewers into surreal underwater worlds that provide settings for strange, open-ended narratives. In Majuri's photos, female subjects writhe and dance beneath the water, in front of background landscapes that the artist designs herself. With the dimensions blurred, the resulting images are fluid and sensual, creating the impression of masterful oil paintings.

"The water is the most remarkable," she says. "It carries bodies. Water is colour. The shimmer and the deep green. My challenge is to see the reality in a non-traditional light... I follow the logic of colours, when I combine places, people and objects. To me the most important quality of photography is its capability to convey emotions."
