Top 10 Environmental Watch List

  • Posted by Mitchell Flexo on January 4, 2011 in All
  • Vermont Law School's Environmental Law Center just launched its first annual Top Ten Environmental Watch List, outlining the most important environmental law and policy issues of 2010, and how they may continue to play out in the new year.

According to the list, the most important event of 2010 was the inability of Congress to enact federal climate change legislation. This was a massive blow to environmentalists who poured significant amounts of time, money, and resources into the effort, even settling for a compromised 'energy bill' that still didn't happen. Looking ahead, the next big federal fight on the environment will be about the EPA, which some Republicans seek to eliminate entirely.

The second largest event of 2010 was the Gulf oil spill, the worst in American history, followed by the EPA's first greenhouse gas rules, which are already being challenged.

Check out the rankings for the rest of the list.
