EPA Retains Power to Regulate Emissions

  • Posted by Mitchell Flexo on June 13, 2010 in Politics
  • The U.S. Senate has rejected a proposed measure to strip the Environmental Protection Agency of its power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. The rejected measure, tabled by oil-friendly Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski, would have rescinded the authority of the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. Nicknamed "the Dirty Air Act," the resolution would have passed authority over emissions to Congress, where partisan politics would have made effective regulation all but impossible. The decision represents an important victory for the Obama administration, helping pave the way for a landmark energy bill that will help decrease our dependence on oil and shift the way we operate on earth.
