Clover Chadwick: Creative Plant Design

  • Posted by SHFT on June 1, 2011 in Home/Garden
  • Clover Chadwick, owner of Dandelion Ranch here in Los Angeles, describes her approach to floral design as "natural, organic, balanced, with lots of movement." It's a design philosophy rooted in her experiences studying agriculture and working in a Napa eatery, where fresh, seasonal ingredients were the order of the day.

Chadwick's creations involve wild, native plants that are outside the realm of traditional floral design. "I love to use greens and weeds that we don’t normally think about for floral arrangements." When it comes to plant containers, she's also all about creative repurposing. "We plant everything in found objects—tin cans, pallets, crates, serving pieces—anything we can find that will hold soil."

Chadwick recently brought her singular aesthetic to the grounds of Alternative Apparel's flagship store, a converted craftsman home on Abbot Kinney in Venice, California. The results balance beautifully with the brand's vintage, sustainable aesthetic. More photos at Alternative Apparel's blog.
